Condensation occurs when the water content of air rises above a level called the "dew point". At such time, water droplets will form on the coldest surfaces e.g. Windows, external walls etc.
Nowadays most properties are insulated to prevent warm air from escaping. This reduction in ventilation allows the air contained in the property to reach a higher relative humidity.
In winter months, when the problems of condensation are at their worst, most ventilation systems and extraction fans are switched off because they introduce to much cold air in the property. We have products on offer which can be used in the winter whilst not letting cold draughts into your home.
Condensation prevention work usually involves:
- Removing the vapour laden air from the property by installing ventilation in affected areas.
- Advice will be given on the use of anti mould paint.
- Friendly advice will also be given on preventing condensation in further areas of your property.

Passifier air vents
Passifier Vents help remove moist air from the room to the outside. These air vents are different to a standard air vent as they prevent cold air/draughts from coming through as they are fitted with a slab of mineral wool inside. It operates continuously without noise 24 hours per day and can extract up to 2.3 litres of water per day. These can be fitted in most rooms in a house. These require no electricity and are simply placed into the wall where the problem is.
Positive ventilation systems
We offer two types of positive ventilation systems. The loft mounted unit and the wall mounted unit.
A positive ventilation system that gently forces air from the loft around a building. It reduces humidity and eliminates condensations, black mould and mildew. It is fitted with an intrinsically safe heater that if necessary automatically warms the re-circulated air to a temperature of 10oC. This is an effective and inexpensive way of eliminating black mould and improving air quality by removing other airborne contaminants, including radon gas. The unit we fit utilises the latest technology to ensure minimum energy consumption and long trouble free life.
The unit is positioned in the loft above the landing in a house or central hallway of a bungalow, the system takes maximum advantage of solar gain and warm air stratification.
There is also a wall mounted unit available for properties without a loft space. The wall mounted unit is usually placed within the hallway of the building.
The unit is fitted by a fully qualified electrician and comes with a 5 year warranty.
