CK Walker Damp & Timbers love to work on older properties throughout Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire restoring and preserving the past.
We recognise that a great deal of care needs to be taken when designing works specifications for restoration works on a traditional property. Sometimes modern materials and methods are just not suitable. When it comes to lime plastering and pointing,we can provide advice on the best way to preserve or restore your property using tradtional materials and methods.
Lime is great building material. Lime allows the free transport of moisture vapour through the fabric of the building (breathability). This can halt decay, and reduces the unpleasant accumulation of condensation and damp. It is due to these qualities that many older buildings have stayed dry and free from decay for many years.
Unfortunatley over many years, some older properties have been renovated and repaired with modern methods that were just not suitable for the property type. For example, a hard dense sand cement render on a traditional rubble filled stone wall, will prevent a wall from breathing. This can lead to dampness issues. Due to this, we are often asked to replace the sand and cement renders with lime plaster in order to allow the wall to naturally breathe again as it was always intended to.
