Qualified Waterproofing Staff
All our waterproofing surveys are carried out by a Certificated Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing (CSSW). The CSSW is a nationally recognised professional qualification for individuals involved in diagnosing problems with water entering structures below ground level and who recommend design solutions.
Any waterproofing works that our company undertakes is always done by a qualified structural waterproofing technician holding the PCAQT (Waterproofing) qualification.
There are three types of systems which can be used for structural water proofing defined in BS8102- 2009 “Code of practice for protection of below ground structures against water from the ground”.
Type A = Barrier protection (commonly referred to as Tanking – as the system creates a tank keeping water out) is either applied externally or internally. It relies on an unbroken “monolithic” membrane that will act to keep water out.
Type B = Structural integral protection- where the structure itself (waterproof reinforced concrete) is the protection. When constructing a new basement the use of Waterproof Reinforced Concrete is used to form the structure and floors.
Type C = Drained protection – This system removes water using cavity drain membrane
(CDM) laid over the floors and walls. The system works by directing any water that comes through the earth retaining walls, to internal drains. It is then taken outside using pumps or gravity drains.

Cementitious tanking is used for the protection of structures against water from the ground and which maybe potentially subject to hydrostatic pressure.
Once cured the tanking is impervious to water. This means a suitable finish can be applied on top of the tanking and not be affected by dampness/water penetration.
Cavity drainage membranes provide a simple and cost effective solution for dealing with damp and contaminated walls – above and below ground.
When a cavity drainage system is used below ground, suitable drainage must also be incorporated into the system. This will normally be done by including perimeter drainage going to a sump and pump.
Cavity drainage membranes are particularly suited for use in situations where the underlying substrate is too fragile or contaminated to allow the use of traditional water proofing systems, for example: Salt contaminated Walls, Walls contaminated by oil, bitumen, paint etc, walls constructed from soft bricks, stone walls and cob walls.
A number of finishes can be applied to the top of the membranes to suit the needs of the property owner.
